Debrecen is the second largest city of Hungary coming after Budapest, the capital city of Hungary. Debrecen has a population of over 200 000 people and is part of Hajdú-Bihar County which is an eastern county of Hungary. Also, Debrecen is an hour away from the closest city of Romania, Oradea, and 2 and a half hours away, going by train, from the capital city, Budapest. It is considered as a university city rather than a cosmopolitan city in comparison to Budapest which makes it a rather quite area and good for studies. Debrecen has its own airport which is 10 minutes away from the city center. There is also good public transportation (buses and trams) from the city center to the University campus and vice versa.
While Debrecen is much smaller than Budapest, this has its benefits, it is easy to navigate and generally far greener and quieter than Budapest.
It also has the benefit of being easy to access via the cities international airport, the only one outside of the capital, with direct flights from Larnaca airport, as well as flights to many other countries.
Just like all of Hungary, Debrecen sits atop a vast reservoir of steaming hot thermal water of a temperature ranging between 36-39 degrees. Thermal baths are often sought out by those suffering from a variety of medical ailments and by those who just want to relax.
